Equipment

  • Oven
  • Pizza stone
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Pizza peel
  • Parchment paper
  • Wire rack
  • Damp tea towel

Ingredients

Default

  • 1 cup warm water (105 degrees F)
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 to 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour *
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt

Instructions

Default

  • Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) and place a pizza stone inside, allowing it to warm for at least 10 minutes.
  • Combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large mixing bowl, then stir until well combined.
  • Let the mixture rest for 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy and bubbles appear on the surface.
  • Gently stir in the olive oil into the yeast mixture.
  • Add 2 cups of flour and the salt to the bowl, mixing with a spatula until a dough ball begins to form, adding more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it until it becomes smooth, using up to ½ cup of additional flour as needed.
  • (Optional) Cover the bowl with a damp tea towel and let the dough rise for 10 minutes up to 1 hour.
  • Roll the dough into your desired pizza shape and carefully place it onto a piece of parchment paper.
  • Add your favorite pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings to the dough.
  • Using a pizza peel, carefully transfer the pizza on the parchment paper to the preheated pizza stone in the oven.
  • Bake the pizza on the hot stone for 11-14 minutes, or until the bottom of the crust turns golden brown.
  • Remove the pizza from the oven with the pizza peel and let it cool on a wire rack for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure your water is the correct temperature to activate the yeast. The optional rising step will yield a more flavorful and airy crust. Remember to flour your surface adequately when kneading to prevent sticking.
