Equipment

  • Pizza stone
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Damp tea towel
  • Parchment paper
  • Pizza peel
  • Wire rack

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup warm water 105 degrees F
  • 1 Tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 to 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour as needed
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 500°F (260°C) and place a pizza stone inside to warm for at least 10 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar, then stir until mixed.
  • Allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbles appear.
  • Gently stir the olive oil into the frothy mixture.

Dough Making

  • Add 2 cups of flour and salt, then mix with a spatula until a slightly sticky dough ball forms, adding more flour if necessary.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it until smooth, incorporating up to ½ cup more flour as required.
  • Optionally, cover the dough with a damp tea towel and let it rise for 10 minutes to 1 hour.

Baking

  • Roll the dough into your preferred shape and place it onto a sheet of parchment paper.
  • Top the rolled dough with pizza sauce, cheese, and your chosen toppings.
  • Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone in the oven using a pizza peel.
  • Bake for 11-14 minutes on the pizza stone, or until the bottom of the crust turns golden brown.
  • Remove the pizza with the peel and cool it on a wire rack for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

The oven and pizza stone must be thoroughly preheated for optimal crust. Adjust flour quantity as needed to achieve a workable dough consistency.
