  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (divided use - optional)
  • 2 (21 ounce) cans cherry pie filling
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup salted butter (1 stick), melted ((see notes below))

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Combine half a teaspoon of almond extract into each of the two cans of cherry pie filling and stir well.
  • Pour both cans of the cherry pie filling mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Evenly sprinkle the entire box of yellow cake mix over the cherry pie filling layer.
  • Slowly pour the 1/2 cup of melted salted butter over the top of the cake mix, ensuring even distribution.
  • Bake the cake for approximately 50-60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown.

Notes

For an alternative method, slice the butter into small squares and distribute them evenly over the cake mix instead of pouring melted butter. The almond extract is an optional addition to enhance the flavor.
