  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25-oz.)

  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
  • Dump the apple pie filling into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with apple pie spice. Sprinkle the yellow cake mix over the fruit, then evenly distribute the butter slices on top.
  • Bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour, until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
